That's right...we crazy! Pat had a few days from work because he switched shifts with a co-worker, so we decided to go camping! The last time we went camping was almost a year ago, so it well over due. We went up to Payson and camped by Christopher Creek. We went on a Monday so it wasn't very crowded and we were able to pick the perfect spot...shaded all day and right next to the creek.
DAY#1
When we got there Anthony didn't waste any time, he went straight to exploring. The first thing he found was a pine cone. Here he is deciding which he would rather hold on to...the cup or the pine cone...I think you can guess which one he chose :) This is our new tent! We out grew our old tent and I love the new one. It has the height of a cabin tent, but is as easy to set us as a dome tent. The best of both worlds!
This is all Anthony needs...dirt, dirt, and a little more dirt!
"Hey! Let me in...Let me in!"
Thumbs up...he got over it
I didn't notice this until I put these on the blog, but the next two pictures Pat and Anthony are posing the exact same way! Hehehe...one
two
Anthony trying his skills with the hiking poles
Hike #1: We decided as a warm up to hike an easy trail and see how far we could go. It went pretty well, though I don't know how far we actually went. This is how we carried both children!
This tree looked and felt like plastic!
Anthony put the hat on himself...he's one hip dude! Pat really liked these alligator junipers. There were a ton of them on the trail!
The trunks looks like alligator scales...that is why they are called alligator junipers :)
Back at camp... that night Anthony used the flashlight to help him dig in the dirt :)
Content and asleep...This was Adrian's cave for the trip. If he wasn't in the snugli he was in his car seat...poor little guy I think he got tired of it
DAY 2:
Anthony knew he wasn't allowed in the street, so he got as close as possible without actually venturing on the road :) Rise and Shine!
I love how Anthony is holding his shovel in one hand and digging with the other :) Who needs a shovel when you have fingers?
Hike #2: We hiked the Fossil Springs Trail about 5miles east of Strawberry (about 20 minutes from Payson). It was a pretty hike that went from shaded forest, to barren desert and finally the spring. The hiking book we have said it was only going to be 6miles total...come to find out a little to late that it is more like 8miles. The hike down was rough. There was not much shade (and of course we started out late so the sun was high) and the sun was hot making us sweat which brought the nasty mosquitoes and gnats. We only had stop and feed Adrian once on the way down. We thought we were almost there when we saw a group coming up and they said we still had about another 1.5 miles to go! We contemplated turning around, but we wouldn't have had enough water we kept going and it was worth it! It was like paradise at the bottom. There was a natural spring so we could refill all our bottles and rest in the shade.
Anthony trying his skills with the hiking poles...it is a little harder with all the rocks around :)
Cute rosy cheeks! Anthony was excited to get out of the pack and explore. Of course we were exhausted and still had to chase him aroundSinging and drumming...Anthony can entertain himself anywhere
This is what Adrian thought of the hike
Me sporting Anthony's hat...yes it fits!
Pat taking a break...he is carrying 30-35lbs with Anthony on his back!
Time to go! Anthony is not too excited about having to get in the pack again! Our plastic air mattress sounds great about now :)
We didn't get to Payson until 7pm so we ate at this Italian place called Cardo's (next to the Safeway). It was fairly inexpensive and delicious! They had the best potato soup and Pat said the pizza was the best he has ever had. Of course after an 8mile hike I am sure most anything is superb. We will have to go again when we are not so famished and see if it tastes as good :)
DAY #3
Packing up camp...before we left I had to take a picture of Adrian in his hat! Anthony is helping Dad fold the rain cover
That cover must have been easy because Anthony is ready to take down the tent!
While we packed the rest Anthony tried to get as close to creek as possible. Every time I turned around he had scooted a little closer to water
It was our first time camping with 2 boys and it really wasn't that bad. I think we might do it again :)
